Context
Murrin Murrin is a nickel-cobalt operation where every shutdown hour is lost production. Planning has to be complete, sequenced and resourced before the first isolation.
Problem
Each shutdown brings together engineering, procurement, HSE, operations and multiple contractors, all with their own constraints, and they all have to converge on one fixed window.
Approach
- 01Develop scopes and work packs, review work orders, and align labour, access and supporting resources.
- 02Map dependencies across disciplines and resolve readiness constraints before execution.
- 03Coordinate manning and onboarding, scaffolding, cranes, isolations, inspections and quality documentation.
- 04Track planning and execution progress and feed lessons learned into the next shutdown.
Outcome
- 6–8 shutdowns a year prepared, totalling A$6–8M and more than 300 contractors mobilised.
- Up to 30% budget saved on selected shutdowns, while limiting production downtime.
- Field credibility from an Ore Leach maintenance assignment (Dec 2024 – Apr 2025).
In product terms
- Scope and work packs → problem framing and well-defined backlog items
- Cross-discipline dependency mapping → roadmap and dependency management
- Readiness reviews → release readiness / go-no-go
- Post-shutdown feedback loop → retrospectives and continuous delivery
